His mother, Flor Silvestre, is also an iconic regional Mexican singer. He debuted as a singer at the age of three in his father’s concert ‘Madison Square Garden’ in New York City. He started solo performances and launched his first solo album, “Pepe Aguilar Con Tambora” in 1989. In the 1990’s he produced some songs for Mexican singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas.
